Meet Meal Vision, a world first artificial intelligence assisted food scanning and meal planning solution. Developed by Morrison Living’s parent company Compass Group Australia (CGA) alongside Deliotte, Meal Vision automatically assess the quality standards of meals and collects valuable food service data, changing the way Morrision Living can see nutrition and track consumption within aged care facilities.
Meal Vision uses scanning technology to capture every meal before and after consumption. The system has the ability to track how much of each item on the plate has been eaten allowing the consumption pattern and nutritional intake for individual residents to be monitored and understood. It is linked to resident records, so any allergies or intolerance’s are flagged on the display screen when food is scanned, plus all data collected continually augments the understanding of their overall well being.
The data collected is fed to an AI cloud-based platform which analyses consumption and resident satisfaction over time and shares it with carers, caterers, medical teams and even relatives. It helps to identify diet-based deficiencies and residents that require adjustments in meal planning and composition, feeding the understanding of both the short and long-term impacts of the nutrition provided for residents.
Once the data is consolidated and analysed, it can be translated into day-to-day actions that will optimise individual diets and nutritional plans. Ultimately, issues can be identified prior to a resident becoming at risk of malnutrition.
Explaining why Meal Vision is such a critical innovation, Lea Cornelius, Chief Information Officer at Compass Group Australia says, “The data provides accurate insights about the nutritional value consumed by residents, as well as early detection of malnutrition or changed eating behaviours. The information assists staff and clinicians by informing and optimising personalised care plans. Over time, the data will strengthen and identify individual and collective trends.”
