Stop Food Waste Day 2024, an international day of action

Did you know?

  • 25% of the food wasted globally could feed all 795 million undernourished people in the world
  • 8% of all greenhouse gas emissions each year are due to food waste and loss

To address these global statistics Compass Group launched Stop Food Waste Day in 2017. It is now become the largest single day of action in the fight against global food waste, raising awareness of the issue and encouraging the industry to reduce the amount of food thrown away.

The aims of Stop Food Waste Day

  • Prevent global food waste at the source by storing food optimally, making use of every edible part of the ingredient and planning meals ahead of time.
  • Inspire everyone – friends, colleagues, local communities – to reduce food waste and repurpose more.
  • Repurpose food by giving a second life to ingredients that most commonly go to waste, or by redistributing surplus food to your local community.

No one ever has the intention to waste food, which is why at Compass we strive to make every day #StopFoodWasteDay. By shining a light on this issue, and tackling it together, we can make such a meaningful impact on our global food system.” – Amy Keister, Global Director of Sustainability at Compass Group
